Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20th, 1964) was an American lawyer, politician, and the current vice president of United States. She is the first female vice-president and the highest ranking female official in U.S history. As a member the Democratic Party, she was the former attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017 and was she was a United States senator representing California from 2017 to 2021. Harris was born in Oakland and attended Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. She started her career with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. After that, she was enlisted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. She was elected San Francisco district attorney in 2003. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in 2010, and then elected again in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris beat Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election to become the second African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. As senator, she was a vocal advocate for healthcare reform, federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants as well as the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. She was praised nationally for her pointed questioning of Trump administration officials in Senate hearings, including Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, who was accused of sexual assault.
